Het is het resultaat van onderzoek wat deze maand in het tijdschrift the Archives of Sexual Behavior.

De studie is gedaan door Cindy Meston, PhD, and David Buss, PhD, van de afdeling psychologie van de universitiet va nTexas in Austinf
Ze hebben het onderzocht bij 203 mannen en 241 vrouwen in de leeftijd van 17-52 jaar. De vraag was wat de reden was voor het hebben van sex tijdens hun leven tot op dat moment. Alle redenen voor alle malen sex moesten/mochten anoniem gemeld worden.

De reden vor sex volgens studenten is:

3.Experiencing physical pleasure
4.Expressing love
5.Having sex because of feeling desired by the other
6.Having sex to escalate the depth of the relationship
7.Curiosity or seeking new experiences
8.Marking a special occasion for celebration
9.Mere opportunity
10.Sex just happening due to seemingly uncontrollable circumstances

Voor vrouwen (niet student) is de lijst anders:
